Screw Pitch Gauge | Thread Pitch Gauge | How to use Screw Pitch gauges?

Screw pitch gauge is also known for thread pitch gauge. Simply pitch gauge.

In metrology, Screw pitch gauge/ Thread pitch gauge is designed to check the pitch of the thread by matching the strips with the teeth of any workpiece.

This is not a precision measuring instrument, rather it allows the user to quickly determine the pitch value of the given thread.

Construction of the Screw Pitch gauge/ Thread Pitch Guage

The Screw pitch gauge made up of a set of blades as shown above. Each blade will be shaped with the threads shapes with different pitch values, and the corresponding pitch value will be stamped permanently on the blade itself.

The Pitch gauge consists of two sets of blades on each side. you can see it in the above picture. On one side, it is small size pitch stack and the other side, blades are having the large pitch valued threads stack.

Measuring with Screw Pitch Gauge/Thread Pitch Gauge

1. To check the pitch value of any thread, we need to roughly pick the nearest pitch gauge blade from the stack, and place the blade as shown above gif.
2. Now the pitch gauge thread and the workpiece threads(Bolt) should match exactly as shown above.
3. To make sure the threads have contacted correctly, we need to maintain a light on the other side, so that the light can pass thru the gap if there is existed.
4. If there is a gap, then change the blade and check it with the adjacent Blade. repeat this process for until we get a perfect match.
